Ben Marcus is the author of Notable American Women (a novel), and The Age of Wire and String (stories).  His new novel, The Flame Alphabet, will be published by Knopf in February, 2012.  His fiction, essays, and reviews have appeared in Harper's, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The Believer, Salon, McSweeney's, Time, Conjunctions, The Village Voice, and BOMB.  He is the editor of The Anchor Book of New American Short Stories.  Among his awards are a National Endowment for the Arts Award, the Morton Dauwen Zabel Award from The American Academy of Arts and Letters, three Pushcart Prizes, a Whiting Writer's Award, and a grant from the Creative Capital Foundation.  He has been a professor at Columbia since 2000.
