Lecturer

Cris Beam is the author of Transparent: Love, Family and Living the T with Transgender Teenagers (Harcourt, 2007) which won a Lambda Literary Award and was a Stonewall Honor Book.  Her work has appeared in Marie Claire, Mademoiselle, Out, Teen People and Newsweek as well as on the public radio program This American Life.  She also teaches at New York University, The New School and Bayview Women’s Correctional Facility in New York.  She’s now working on a book about foster care in the U.S. and a young adult novel about a transgender runaway for Little, Brown.  She has a BA from the University of California Santa Cruz and an MFA in nonfiction from Columbia.
