Lecturer

Ryan Harty received a BA from UC Berkeley, an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and held a Truman Capote Fellowship in the Wallace Stegner Program at Stanford University.  His first book, Bring Me Your Saddest Arizona, won the John Simmons Award for Short Fiction and was named a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of the Year.  His stories have been widely published in national magazines and journals, have been performed on NPR’s Selected Shorts, and have been anthologized in The Best American Short Stories and the Pushcart Prize.  He has taught as a Teaching-Writing Fellow at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, as a Jones Lecturer at Stanford University, and as the Helen Herzog Zell Visiting Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Michigan.
