PAC Benefits Project Changes Direction

19 Sep 06

CUIT has been working with Columbia's Human Resources to implement the Benefits Administration component of the People at Columbia (PAC) system. Recently the project was restructured to consist of several smaller, higher-priority objectives. Over this fiscal year we will complete additional PAC system enhancements and configuration changes to support the following HR Benefits initiatives:

  • Incorporation of new benefit providers and plans for 2007. Details of these changes will be announced by Human Resources as part of the annual Open Enrollment communications.

  • Creation of additional predefined and customized reports required by HR benefits staff. These reports will provide more streamlined reconciliation of benefits and better decision-making capabilities. For example, benefits staff will be able to more easily determine vesting dates for retiring staff, resulting in improved reconciliation of retirement accounts with external pension plan administrators.

  • Implementation of an application that can be integrated into the current benefits system to provide an easy-to-use, self-help tool for employees with benefit-related questions and issues. The application will allow HR Benefits staff to tailor the information and forms currently contained in the Benefits in Brief section of the HR web site to each individual employee.

  • Assessment of potential vendor solutions that would allow new employees to self-enroll in benefit plans and current employees to make their own life-event changes on the web.

  • Assessment of potential vendor solutions to automate the determination of benefits eligibility, which is currently determined manually by HR Benefits staff.
