Central Server Upgrade Improves Outlook and Exchange Services

22 Jun 06

During the past few months, we have upgraded the Central and Exchange servers. This upgrade improved performance and reliability, which has allowed us to manage storage space requirements more seamlessly and efficiently. We have increased Exchange mailbox sizes from 35 to 250 MB and user file space from 100 to 500 MB. In addition, our upgrade has made it possible to lower the cost of space allocated to departmental groups. These improvements will mean that you can use the Central and Exchange servers more effectively to support your department’s technology needs. The new infrastructure has not only improved server performance but also established a flexible environment that will enable us meet the growth and challenges of the coming years.

The new Exchange 2003 cluster of servers provides all Exchange users with a streamlined login procedure and an up-to-date Outlook interface. In addition, now everyone can take advantage of the newest version of Microsoft's WebOutlook, which looks very close to the version of Outlook that you see in your office. Furthermore, the new version supports the ability to view shared calendars. We recommend using WebOutlook as a quick way to check your mail and calendars from any remote location. Please note that the web address is now http://outlook.cuit.columbia.edu.
