Tenant Management Project Now Focuses on University's Commercial Real Estate

25 Aug 06

For the past several months CUIT has been working with University representatives from Facilities, the Real Estate Group, the Medical Center, the Office of the Controller, and Undergraduate Housing and Dining Services to evaluate and plan for new technology to support the administration and space management of Columbia's residential and commercial properties.

An initial objective was to identify one integrated, third-party software package that could replace several existing but inadequate in-house applications. After evaluating leading software vendors, we concluded that some of the University's unique residential housing requirements could not be addressed by an off-the-shelf solution.

Instead, we will focus first on the University's commercial real estate needs, as a candidate for a new software package. We will consider our residential housing needs at a later time, with alternatives to include enhancing a current in-house application, partnering with an outside party to develop a new application, or implementing an off-the-shelf solution if the software market evolves to better meet our needs.
