What is Identity Management?

"Identity Management" refers to the provisioning and maintenance of electronic credentials and attributes, generally for the purpose of controlling access to resources. In other words, it is how we can tell who you are and what you are supposed to be able to do. Read more.

CUIT Identity Management Services

  • Authentication via single username and password (UNI).

  • Enterprise Directory: Identification and Authorization information via LDAP.

  • Web Based Proxy Authentication and Authorization (aka WebSSO/WebISO/Single Sign On/Reduced Sign On).
    Service provided by CUIT Applications Integration

  • Secure Web Server Authentication and Authorization for pages served from www1.columbia.edu and other CUIT maintained servers.

  • Unix and Email Account Management for servers maintained by CUIT Unix & Email Systems.

  • Federation, interrealm authentication and authorization.
    Service provided by CUIT Applications Integration

  • Consulting to help integrate our services with yours.

  • Reports on select demographics. Charges may apply for this service, and advanced notification is required.

CUIT's Identity Management architecture is based on a combination of internally developed programs, opensource products, and commercial products. Where possible, we adhere to open standards to facilitate the adoption of our services. Read more.
