Plate 124

Current marks deformed by loading

The rough base of this verticalized and overturned sandstone bed shows more clearly that load structures did not start on a smooth surface, but emphasized and overprinted previous current-produced structures. Some flute casts and one groove cast are well recognizable, and the paleocurrent direction can be determined. In other parts of the bed surface, current marks have been deformed or replaced by the brainlike convective pattern (see lower right).
