Plate 160

Problematic traces: Neonereites

This appreciable bas-relief, 3-4 cm wide, was more than a meter long in the original outcrop. As in previous examples, the trace fossil shows up as a cast on the sole of a turbidite sandstone bed, where it is associated with some current markings made by impacting "tools." Apart from these scattered structures, the original bottom was rather smooth.

The trace represents another member of the deep-water Nereites  ichnofacies.
