ACHITOFEL. Achitophel the Gilonite was one of David's counselors. He encouraged Absalom to rebel against his father. When he saw that his treacherous advice was not followed, he went home and hanged himself (II Kings 14-17).

In the homily on wicked counsel, ParsT 638-640, Achitofel is an example of the wicked counselor. The Man in Black says that he would be worse than Achitofel if he repented of his love, BD 1116-1119. [Absolon1: David]

The name occurs in ParsT 638 and BD 1118.
