CHIRON the centaur was the son of Cronus (Saturn) and Phillyra. He was skilled in music and medicine and became the tutor of heroes. Achilles was his most outstanding pupil (Met VI.126; Achilleid I.104-197; OM VI.2949-3006).

"Eacides Chiron" appears as a harper, HF III.1204-1207. Aeacides, the Greek patronymic that appears in Latin, is applied to Achilles, grandson of Aeacus, throughout the Achilleid of Statius. Gower describes the education that Chiron gave Achilles but does not mention music, Confessio Amantis IV.1963-2013. [Achille: Eacides: Glascurion: Orion: Orpheus]
