DARDANUS was King Priam's ancestor. The second of Troy's six gates was called Dardanus in his honor. Benoît names Dares Phrygius (De excidio Troiae historia IV) as the source of his description of the gates, Roman de Troie 3139-3159.

The Trojans return from battle through the gate Dardanus, and the crowd hails Troilus as he passes, Tr II.610-618.

The name appears medially, Tr II.618.
