ELCANOR cannot be positively identified. It may refer to Helcanor/Helcana, the heroine of the Old French prose romance Cassidorus (thirteenth century), who appears to her lover twelve times in dreams. The romance is a continuation of the prose redaction of the Old French Les sept sages de Rome (The Seven Sages of Rome).

Not even Elcanor has had a dream like this one of flying with an eagle, HF II.512-517.

The name appears in final rhyming position, HF II.516.
