HELIE was a priest in Israel and lived at Shiloh during the period of the Judges. Hannah brought her son, Samuel, to him in fulfillment of a vow she made to God. Helie's sons cared nothing for the Lord's honor; they took uncooked meat from the people's sacrifices when the Law forbade eating such meats (I Kings 2).

Helie's sons are the sons of Belial; they seem to be angels of light but are really angels of darkness, ParsT 895-901. The Parson quotes I Kings 2:12: filii Heli filii Belial, "the sons of Helie are the sons of Belial." [Belial: Samuel]

Helie is the form in the Latin Vulgate. Latin initial h was not pronounced.
