HORASTE is the fictitious lover, conjured up by Pandarus, of whom Troilus becomes jealous. This lover of Criseyde's does not appear in Boccaccio's Il Filostrato (1333-1339). Pandarus introduces this imaginary lover to extract oaths of fidelity from Criseyde, Tr III.792-805.

Horaste, a variant of Orestes, occurs in final rhyming position, Tr III.797, and medially, Tr III.806.
