JOB was the patriarch whose tribulations are recorded in The Book of Job. He is the archetype of patience in adversity.

Devils, with God's permission, may harm the body but not the soul, as in Job's case, FrT 1489-1491, a quotation from Job 1:12, 2:6. The proverbial patience of Job appears in WBP 436; ClT 932-938; Mel 998-1000.

The reference to Job at ParsT 134 is really to Proverbs 12:4; the Parson quotes Job 10:20-22, ParsT 176; Job 20:25, ParsT 191; Job 10:22, ParsT 211, 217, 223.

Jobes, the ME genitive case, occurs once, WBP 436.
