JOSEPH1, Jacob's favorite son, was sold into Egypt by his jealous brothers. There he was bought by Potiphar, Pharoah's minister, and lived in Potiphar's house. When Potiphar's wife found that she could not seduce him, she denounced him to her husband, and Joseph was imprisoned. In prison he interpreted the dreams of Pharoah's baker and butler, and the interpretations proved true. When the butler was restored to his place in Pharoah's palace, he recommended Joseph to Pharoah as an interpreter of dreams, and Joseph was released from prison. When he interpreted Pharoah's dreams, Pharoah made him his prime minister (Genesis 25-45).
