JUVENAL. Decimus Junius Juvenalis, fl. first-second century A.D., was born at Aquinum c. A.D. 60 or 70. His Sixteen Satires are fierce attacks on vices, abuses, and follies of Roman life in his time.

The "olde wyfe" quotes Juvenal, WBT 1192-1194, sentiments found in Satire X.21-22. The narrator quotes from Satire X.2-4 in Tr IV.198-199: "Folk little know what is fitting for them to desire so that they are not disappointed in their desire."

Juvenal appears initially in WBT 1192 and in an apostrophe, Tr IV.197.
