LABAN was Jacob's uncle and father of Rachel and Leah. When Esau sought to kill Jacob because he had robbed him of his father's blessing, Jacob went to Laban to escape Esau's vengeance. He worked for Laban for seven years, hoping to marry Rachel at the end of that time, but Laban substituted Leah under the wedding veil. So Jacob worked for Laban another seven years, after which he married Rachel. Laban became rich during the fourteen years of Jacob's service (Genesis 19-30).

God gave his blessing to Laban because of Jacob, ParsT 440-444. [Jacob: Lia: Rachel: Rebekka]
