MARDOCHEE. Mordecai was Esther's uncle and her guardian, whom she obeyed in everything. When Haman persuaded King Assuerus, Esther's husband, to proclaim an edict against the Jews in his kingdom, Mordecai advised Esther how to save her people. The king hanged Haman and gave his estates to Mordecai (Esther 2-8).

Because of the advice Esther gave the king, Mordecai was advanced at court, MerchT 1371-1374. [Ester]

The form is a variant of Latin Mardochaeus and occurs in final rhyming position, MerchT 1373.
