MAXIME, MAXIMUS is the officer and registrar of Rome whom Almachius sends to force Cecile and her company to sacrifice to Jupiter (Legenda aurea CLXIX).

Maximus is Almachius's registrar, and he arrests Tiburtius and Valerian in The Second Nun's Tale. Cecile baptizes him secretly, SNT 379-385. He helps to convert many to Christianity, and Almachius beats him with a leaden whip until he dies, SNT 393-406. [Almache: Cecile: Tiburce: Urban: Valerian]

Maxime, derived from Latin ablative case, occurs once, with elided final -e, in medial position, SNT 377. Maximus, Latin for "greatest," appears three times in medial position, SNT 368, 372, 400.
