PHILOTETES was Jason's companion and pilot of the Argo, which sailed in search of the Golden Fleece (HDT I). He is not mentioned in Valerius Flaccus's Argonauticon. Philotetes is the ship's pilot when the Argonauts sail from Thessaly, LGW 1459-1461. [Argus2: Jason: Medea: Ram]

The form is medieval Latin, possibly a variant of Philoctetes, and appears initially, LGW 1459.
