PISCES, PISCIS, the constellation the Fish, is the twelfth sign of the zodiac, the exaltation or sign of maximum power of Venus, the depression or sign of minimum power of Mercury, and the night house of Jupiter. One fish lies in the northern hemisphere south of Andromeda and the other lies in the southern hemisphere near Aquarius. The whole constellation is called a southern sign (Tetrabiblos I.17, 19). It is the cold and moist sign (Confessio Amantis VII.1215-1219).

Alys of Bath accounts for the differences between those born under Venus and Mercury in the differences in their constellations: Venus is exalted in Pisces, but Mercury is desolate in that sign, WBP 701-705. Piscis is the twelfth sign of the zodiac, Astr I.8.5, and lies directly opposite Virgo, Astr II.6.18. All the signs from the head or beginning of Libra to the end of Piscis are called signs of the south, Astr II.28.37. Piscis, an eastern sign, obeys the sovereign or western sign Libra, Astr II.28.37. The sign is used for calculating the degree of a planet, Astr II.40.51-59. [Fyssh: Mercurie: Venus]

Pisces, Latin plural, occurs in medial position, WBP 704; Piscis, Latin singular, appears only in the Astrolabe.
