ROBYN3. Jolly Robin is the common name for a country fellow.

Pandarus quotes a proverb about Jolly Robyn who "pleyed" in the "haselwode," Tr V.1174-1176, a proverb which may refer anachronistically to Robin Hood. Chaucer substitutes an English proverb for original Italian in Il Filostrato VII.10.
