SILLA. Scylla was the daughter of Nisus of Megera. She fell in love with King Minos as he besieged her city, Alcathoe, and in order to help him win, she cut off her father's purple lock on which his life and the fate of the kingdom depended, and gave it to Minos. He captured the city, but Scylla's action horrified him. He sailed away and forbade her to set foot on Crete. As she leaped from the battlements to escape her father and to follow Minos's ships, she was changed into the lark or the ciris (Met VIII.11-151; OM VIII.1-352).
Silla is among those who have died for love, PF 292. The story appears in LGW 1909-1920. [Minos: Nysus]
Silla, the Italian variant, occurs initially, PF 292.
