SYTHEO. Sychaeus was Dido's Phoenician husband. Pigmalion, her brother, envied Sychaeus's wealth and arranged to have him murdered. Sychaeus's ghost warned Dido to flee, and she went to Africa where she founded Carthage (Aeneid I.340-360).
