THEODAMAS was a Theban augur with the army who encouraged the troops with an invocation followed by blasts from the trumpets (Thebaid VIII.279-343).

The courses of Januarie's wedding feast are preceded by the music of trumpets, MerchT 1720-1721; the trumpets of Joab and Theodamas were not half as clear. The Dreamer hears the trumpet of Theodamas, HF III.1246. Chaucer has made Theodamas a trumpeter.

The name occurs once initially, HF III.1246, and once in medial position, MerchT 1720.
