YKARUS. Icarus, Daedalus's son, accompanied his father when he fled from Athens to Crete. When Daedalus angered Minos by constructing the cow in which Pasiphae enjoyed her passion for the bull, Daedalus had to leave Crete as quickly as possible. He constructed huge wings, held together with wax, for Icarus and himself. Icarus flew too near the sun; the wax melted, and he plunged into the sea that bears his name (Met VIII.183-235; OM VIII.1579-1960; RR 5215-5233).
Not even unhappy Dedalus and his foolish child Ykarus have flown as high as the eagle says he will take the frightened dreamer, HF II.919-924.
Ykarus, the OF variant, appears in final rhyming position, HF II.920.
