The Changing Picture of Childbirth in America

Speaker: Judith W. Leavitt, PhD, University of Wisconsin, Madison

Comments by: Guy I. Benrubi, MD, University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville

Dr. Leavitt's talk will explore the evolution of childbirth in America from traditional process when women were "brought to bed" by midwives at home, through the early twentieth century period when women were "alone among strangers" in the hospital, to the more varied practices.
