Thursday, November 15, 2012 - 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Columbia University
Morningside Campus
Butler Library, Room 522
With
Web 2.0 technologies exploding in myriad directions, it has become
easier for faculty to create individual and group assignments for their
classes using wikis, blogs, multimedia, etc. But how should student work
be assessed? Can faculty go beyond "class participation" grades to
critique student achievement and understanding? What are some of the
criteria that one should adhere to when using these tools?
This session explores how multimedia projects can be oriented towards learning objectives through design and assessment by examining case studies and rubrics that have proven effective in various classroom environments, from the small seminar to the large lectures.
Rubrics that will be examined will focus on best practices for evaluating wikis, blogs, VoiceThreads, Mediathread assignments, and New Coursework's discussion board.
