Columbia University's African Diplomatic Forum (ADF) 2011

Friday, November 18, 2011 - 9:00am - 6:30pm
Columbia University Morningside Campus International Affairs Building, Kellogg Center (15th Floor)
This year's African Diplomatic Forum will explore new challenges and opportunities facing the political development and security of Africa in light of recent global, political and economic shifts. This year's theme, "The Blueprint: Managing Africa's Political Security and Building Effective Institutions," asks us to consider the enduring challenges of identifying the necessary foundations, developing the right tools, and drawing a coherent and unified plan for building a continent of strong institutions supported by strong civil societies. The heart of the discussions will be the collective security, aspirations, and empowerment of African people, and how those who take on the task of stewarding the continent's development can fulfill their duties to maintain progress. ADF is brought to you by the SIPA Pan-African Network (SPAN) in partnership with the Institute for African Studies (IAS). 09:00AM - 09:15AM Introduction & Welcome Note 09:15AM - 10:00AM Opening Keynote & Questions 10:10AM - 12:10PM Panel 1: The Inter-temporality of Leadership in Africa - Past, Present and Future (Room 1501) Panel 2: Media and ICT (Room 1510) 12:10PM - 01:10PM Lunch 01:20PM - 03:20PM Panel 3: Role of Women in Political Development (Room 1501) Panel 4: Institution Building: Enhancing Efficiency and Effectiveness (Room 1510) 03:30PM - 05:30PM Panel 5: BRICS: The New Roles and Relationships for African Development (Room 1501) Panel 6: Democracy in Conflict, Conflict in Democracy (Room 1510) 05:40PM - 06:20PM Closing Keynote & Questions 06:20PM - 06:30PM Closing Remarks
