Please join the Harriman Institute and East Central European Center for a roundtable discussion. Woodward, Professor of Political Science, The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. There is a crisis of democracy in Europe. The Harriman Institute & East Central European Center at Columbia University have put together a roundtable that will reflect on this critical juncture in the development of the Old Continent. The roundtable will examine the state of democracy in the EU and in Hungary, Romania, Serbia, and Ukraine four countries that represent different trajectories of democratization in the post-communist space and various relationships with the EU. We expect to discuss: the origins, progress, and future consequences of the crisis, the responses of internal and international actors to the crisis, and the differences and similarities of the crisis in these cases.
