Doing the Right Thing: What Every PhD Student and Postdoc Should Know about Research Misconduct
Doing the Right Thing: What Every PhD Student and Postdoc Should Know about Research Misconduct
While many are loathe to admit it,
research misconduct is a reality at universities around the world.
Surveys have found that upwards of one-third of researchers admit to modifying
research results to improve outcomes, dropping data points, or modifying the
design, methodology or results of a study to satisfy a funder. And the
frequency of researchers who report witnessing such behavior in others approaches
75%!
What is research misconduct and why is it a problem? What can you do to
insure that your research practices are above reproach? And what should
you do if you think you have observed misconduct?
Joel Roselin, Assistant Director of Research Compliance Education, will offer a provocative and thought-provoking presentation that will address these questions and others, and present case studies for discussion and debate.
