The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair in Indian Constitutional Law is named after Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, a renowned Indian lawyer, politician, and civil rights activist who was the architect of the Indian Constitution. Ambedkar received an M.A. from Columbia University in 1915, and a Ph.D. from Columbia in 1927.
