Free Trade and the Developing Countries
Friday, April 5, 2013 - 11:00am - 1:00pm
Columbia University Morningside Campus International Affairs Building, Room 1501
Drawing on his ongoing book Free Trade and the Developing Countries, Professor Arvind Panagariya will argue that there is no sustained rapid growth without trade openness. He will present evidence showing the virtually all growth miracles have taken place in the presence of low or declining barriers to trade while trade openness is rarely behind growth debacles. Professor Jagdish Bhagwati, the leading advocate of free trade today will offer his current thinking on the subject. Professor Guillermo Calvo, Director of the Program in Economic Policy Management, will preside.
