Global Mayors Forum: Park Wan-su, Changwon, Korea

Tuesday, April 30, 2013 - 4:00pm - 5:30pm
Columbia University Morningside Campus International Affairs Building, Room 1501

The Global Mayors Forum, sponsored by SIPA's Urban and Social Policy concentration, will host PARK Wan-su, Mayor of Changwon, South Korea.

Mayor Park's talk "Changwon: A Sustainable 21st Century City" will focus on achieving sustainable urban growth through creative leadership.  Changwon was Korea's first planned city; in less than 35 years, it's population has grown ten-fold and it has become one of Korea's major industrial centers.  In his first three terms as Mayor of the fast-growing city, Mayor Park has worked to promote policies that are both citizen-focused and environmentally sustainable.  Mayor Park was a finalist for the 2012 World Mayor Award.

Changwon is a member of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and has been named Korea's "Best Environmentally-Friendly City".

SIPA's Global Mayors Forum showcases the leaders of the worlds most dynamic cities and the Schools conviction that cities are the worlds most important laboratories for creative policymaking.
