GSAS Teaching Center Workshop: Incorporating Data into Teaching
Data in all its forms is playing an increasingly important and visible role in academic life, but it can be difficult to incorporate into teaching. This session will discuss strategies for bringing data both qualitative and quantitative into the classroom. We will discuss tips for introducing students to data terminology, ideas for incorporating data work into assignments, and good tools to use for presenting and analyzing data. The session will be of interest to anyone looking to give students experience with data in their courses, and we are not presuming any prior experience in working with data. In other words, humanities folks are very welcome! Session lead by Ashley Jester, Data Services Coordinator, Social Sciences Libraries, Columbia University, and Heather Van Volkinburg, Data Librarian & Manager of the Empirical Reasoning Lab, Barnard College.
Pizza will be available for registered participants.
