Gail Archer, director of the Barnard music program, moderates a discussion about the rewards and challenges of composing and staging performances of new music by women. Panelists include Wendy Griffiths, whose opera, The Quiet American, was supported by the National Endowment for the Arts; Kim Sherman, a Midwest-based filmmaker and musician whose credits include Sun Dont Shine, V/H/S, and A Teacher; and Welsh-born composer Hilary Tann, whose work has been performed and recorded by ensembles across the world, including the Thai Philharmonic, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and the European Womens Orchestra.
