Transat: The Big Little World of Franco-American Artistic Interchange Before, During, and After the Armory Show, 1913
The Armory Show is rightly cited as a key turning point in American awareness of Parisian art, yet it is only the most obvious example of the artistic to-and-fro between the U.S. and France. Silver will contextualize the Armory Show within a more complicated narrative of influences, animosities, and a few love affairs over the course of the early twentieth century.
Kenneth E. Silver is Professor of Modern Art at NYU and Adjunct Curator of Art, The Bruce Museum. Silver is a specialist in French and American twentieth-century art. His publications include Esprit de Corps: the Art of the Parisian Avant-Garde and the First World War, 1914-1925 and Making Paradise: Art, Modernity, and the Myth of the French Riviera, and he has curated exhibitions including Chaos and Classicism: Art in France, Italy, and Germany, 19181936 at the Guggenheim Museum.
