Hilde Frafjord Johnson served as Minister for International Development of Norway for two periods, 1997-2000 and 2001-2005. She played a pivotal role in the Sudan peace process, leading up to the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM/A) in January 2005. In 1998 Hilde F. Johnson formed the so‐called Utstein‐ group, comprising four development ministers from the UK, Germany, Netherlands and Norway, spearheading crucial changes in development policy and practice. As Minister and in subsequent capacities, Johnson has been engaged in peace building efforts and post crisis transition in relation to several countries in Africa. Hilde F. Johnson is currently Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF. Hilde Frafjord Johnson was born in Arusha, Tanzania. Before being elected to the Norwegian Parliament (1993-2001), she earned a post‐graduate degree in Development Anthropology.
