Fall 2008: Building on Previous Successes; New Offerings
I am pleased to announce our Fall 2008 course offerings. Over the summer, the Learning & Development team has compiled and analyzed your feedback on the classes we offered last fall and spring. Based on your input, we are bringing back all of the courses we offered last semester, as well as some exciting new offerings.
This fall we have grouped our course offerings under the following series:
- Personal Effectiveness Series
- Doing the Right Thing: Respect & Communication — Classroom Sessions
- Customer Service Series
- Project Management
Each of these series is appropriate for all administrative staff, whether you are in an officer or support staff position. We continue to offer these series at both CUMC and Morningside, with Morningside sessions at the Studebaker building. Check out the listing of courses and locations to find one that is convenient for you.
Cornell Interactive Theatre Ensemble Partnership
We are pleased to announce our partnership with the Cornell Interactive Theatre Ensemble (CITE). Interactive theatre combines live performance and audience participation to help people examine important issues. Each CITE workshop features professional actors in scenarios that vividly illustrate encounters between colleagues. We are offering two programs through CITE:
- Respect and Communication: Addressing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
- Respect and Communication: Addressing Discrimination in the Workplace
Positive Feedback
In 2007-08, we had excellent feedback from our course offerings. Most of our participants said that they strongly expected to use their new skills and knowledge on the job. Here is a sampling of what some of our participants had to say.
Fall Online Learning @ Your Fingertips
The Learning & Development team would like to remind you of our web-based library of courses through Skills @ Columbia.
You can access these anytime, anywhere — all you need is your UNI and password. More than 1,000 online career development courses are available to all Faculty and Staff. You can pause these courses and come back later, so you can tailor your learning to a busy schedule.
Performance Management Training
The Learning & Development team also continues to offer the University’s Performance Management training program, launched earlier this year.
This program is for all managers with direct reports who are Officers of Administration, and will become a foundational program as part of a greater Columbia University leadership development curriculum. Another program for Administrative Officers who do not manage staff will be developed and offered later in Fiscal Year 2009.
The training program is applicable and available at any time throughout the year to both new and seasoned managers. Please contact your local HR representative, your CUHR Client Manager, or our team for more information.
We are located in the state-of-the-art Studebaker Building in Manhattanville. Our address is:
