For her final project Michal Richardson wrote two songs that she sung for the class in her presentation.  The songs are based on popular tunes by Van Morrison and Aerosmith.

Handmade Girl

Words by Michal Richardson

[Sung to the tune “Brown Eyed Girl”, by Van Morrison]

Hey where did you go

After invaders came

And ended all over Europe

Matriarchy – such a shame

Instead of disappearing, hey hey

You stayed in the running

In the midst of new ideas, while

We absorbed you thoughts so cunning, and you

My handmade girl

You my handmade girl.

What ever happened

To the Mother Earth we used to know

That was your life-giving side

Known now as a bunch of saints, oh

And your Goddess of Death persona

Hiding behind snakes, birds and dogs

Local myth’s been taking

Them to be supernatural, with you

My handmade girl,

You my handmade girl.

Do you remember when we used to sing,

Sha la la la la la la la la la te da

Not hard to find your third side, hey

She’s been degraded on her own

Goddess of Regeneration one day

Next, she’s been dethroned

She can still threaten you and yours

Sometimes she’ll overcome the weather patterns

Middle Ages they start hunting witches,

Still trying to get rid of you

My handmade girl

You my handmade girl.

Do you remember when we used to sing

Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da…

Dude, that Stone Looks Like a Lady!

Words by Michal Richardson

[Sung to the tune of “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)”, by Aerosmith]

[Chorus:]

Dude, that stone looks like a lady

Armless, footless lady

Stone looks like a lady

Overweight-ish lady

Look at Venus of Willendorf

She got her hair done, but no legs for support

Pregnant lady is the giver of life

People worship a woman – well you know they’re all right!

That’s right

Neolithic people have much more time

To make statues, now that they can use clay

Areas get own culture – that’s fine

They make new figurines, and each go their own way

[Chorus:]

Dude, that stone looks like a lady

And you may think I’m crazy

But Mother Goddess is a lady

And the statue’s got a baby

But never judge a book by its cover

cross Old Europe all the foraging brothers

Lacked the contact that our theory implies

Could the Venus be a Goddess?

Well imagine her surprise!

[Chorus:]

Dude, that stone looks like a lady

But the nice Gimbutas lady

Starts to sound a little shady

When other people have their say-dy

In modern hunter-gatherers they found

(better take a peek, dear)

Nothing complex like our cities and towns

(they had more equality, dear)

They believe in spirits hanging around

(gods didn’t show up ‘till Greece, dear)

But no reason to give just one the crown

(doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo…)

Ooh, what a funky lady.

But she may not have been worshipped like that.

Ooh, what a funky lady –

Oh dear.

[Chorus…]

Dude, that stone looks like a lady…
