Course Objective: One of the major tasks of the urban planner is to apply knowledge gleaned from social science to improve the quality of life in urban society. Statistical methods represent a powerful tool for gaining knowledge that can be used in planning endeavors.  The overarching objective of the course is to provide students with the ability to use statistical methods as tools to aid in urban planning analysis and decision making.  More specifically, students will learn the following:

1. The logic underlying the use of quantitative analysis techniques in planning.
2. Descriptive and inferential statistics and the appropriate use of these techniques.
3. Correlation and regression analysis.
4. The use of SPSS software for statistical analysis.
