This year-long course offers Columbia College students the opportunity to engage in intensive study and discussion of some of the most significant texts of Western culture. Our class work will range from considering the importance of each text within the literary historical tradition to discussing its significance to our contemporary culture; all along, our prime objective will be to consider particular conceptions of what it means to be human and to consider the place of such conceptions in the development of critical thought.  Along the way, we will also be engaging in the discipline of purposeful intellectual argumentation in both oral and written forms.
