Descripton: The Environment - An Economic Perspective - Wednesdays Feb 27, March 6, 13, 27, Apr 3 America needs to rethink fundamentally its attitude towards environmental conservation. Traditionally justified on moral and ethical grounds, conservation has to be viewed instead as an economic winner. In parallel we need o change the economic mechanisms used for conservation. A new generation of environmental policies can draw on economic values to provide incentives for conservaiton, developing markets for the services provided by the environment. These policies would suplement and eventually substantially replace our current reliance on command and control systems.(Instructor: Geoffrey Heal--Columbia University Business School)
