ENVB 0320 Description: The people and the environments of Southeast Asia have undergone very rapid and dramatic change over the last several decades. Wars, economic booms and busts, policy upheavals, and environmental transformations have convulsed much of the region. This module will examine the environmental and social concomitants of important trends and events in the region, focusing on several countries. Issues analyzed in depth will include the causes and effects of rapid agricultural change and the globalization of markets, war, peace, and the conservation of environmental sustainability, and the effects of the drug trade and crop substitution initiatives.
