Sections 12-1 (Metals and Metallurgy) and 12-2 (Balancing Redox Equations) need to be studied on your own. Not much class time will be devoted to these secions as special topics but the redox chemistry and the half-reaction method for balancing equations will be needed throughout the rest of this (as well as the next) chapter. If you have trouble with the method, your recitation instructor will provide help. The sections on electrochemical cells and Faraday's Laws constitute the bulk of the issues to be described here. Read the section on electrometallurgy and consider the redox reactions described.
