Course Introduction The idea behind this course is to help students of the Latin language who have progressed to the point of being able to read Latin prose comfortably to understand, from a mechanical and creative perspective, Latin syntax, word-order, narrative strategies, periodic structure, some rules and habits of classical rhetoric, basic phonetics and prose rhythm, and more generally considerations of tone and audience. This course won't make you into a great Latin prose-writer--that's up to you, eventually, if you aspire to it! But it does offer you a chance to do some hands-on creation of Latin prose, in the hope that you will gain insight as you do into some of the techniques of composition used by ancient authors. IF YOU HAVE ANY DISABILITY that may prevent you from full participation in any of the activities of this class, please let me know as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made. All activities will be wheelchair accessible. Readers, tutors and extra help sessions are available, and homework may be written out in Braille if necessary or convenient.
