For this essay, take a moment to think back to high school or grade
school.Ý What were the cliques in your school? First, describe these
groups and who was included in each one. (Be as concise as possible
while still being specific.) Then discuss the logic (or illogic) of
these groupings, and point out the effects these cliques had on the
class as a whole. You may want to discuss what students were left out
of the groups and how these outsiders affected the system, or any
other problems you see. What was the function or purpose of dividing
the class in this way? And finally: Might there be a better way of
dividing students? Is division necessary or inevitable, or is it
avoidable? Discuss the logic at work behind this process of division
and classification.
