For this essay, take a look at a newspaper and choose an article that
interests you.
First, explain why the article is in the section of the newspaper it
is. Then choose another section of the paper where the article might
fit, and explain your reasons for this choice.
Now consider whether you think readers' responses to the article would
be different if it were placed in a different section. Would there be
a different audience? Would fewer people read it? Would people
consider this article more or less important? Why?
Finally, make some conclusions about the way newspaper articles are
divided and classified. Do newspaper sections engage readers or
disengage them? Does the format restrict critical thinking or invite
it? How might the placement of an article affect its position as a
newsworthy subject beyond the paper?
Feel free to address (relevant) questions of your own if you wish, and
to venture beyond the 3-paragraph structure. Be sure your essay is
logical and well-organized, and that you are making some sort of
argument. Also, be sure to indicate at some point the title, author,
and subject of the article!
400-600 words. Due Tuesday, February 19.
